As I said on the podcast I found S01 of The Expanse deeply boring. The world development is interesting but the character motivations & relationship building are weak. The detective falls in love/becomes obsessed with the missing woman? Holden is aggressively generic. Etc.

S02E04 -Cap Dull hates Det Boring but within 2 minutes decides his wackadoodle plan is acceptable. I know this is an underdog story (with anti-authoritarian undertones which I'd normally be down with) but it feels like kids who don't wanna tell their parents their bike was stolen

Alright the stuff near the end of this episode I got into. The tension between the Roci and the investigative ship and the debris messing up the detention on the bomb and the station moving to protect itself. But I still think that was a batshit plan.

S02EP05 - this was a really good episode, lots of great tension and action and character stuff. Was kind of excited that the show found its legs, at least for one episode. AND THEN THE FUCKING END. It's such stupid gross male fantasy bullshit.pic.twitter.com/UmStUaKhWS

S02E06 - Holden says "I'm right about this" so I'm just gonna assume he's definitely not. I'm still not buying Naomi and Holden together. And I'm with Naomi on not wanting to destroy the sample. I like watching Chrisjen try to navigate what the hell is happening in the universe.

After the last episode introduced a little more concretely some high level concepts, I'm interested in all the different factions trying to navigate how to deal with so many unknown variables and motivations within a tense and hostile solar system.

I'm also trying to pin down my feelings on the Mars' military jingoism. It feels excessively exaggerated but I think (actually, I know) that that xenophobic mentality is so dead on accurate in our world today. Curious to see how that unfolds now, especially with the end revel.

S02EP07 - kinda love that this episode was a big lecture in privilege. Holden being schooled by Naomi and Dawes' schooling Johnson - privilege blinds you to other perspectives and you can't determine what is right for other people or communities. BUT...
Show this thread -
Unfortunately it feels very superficial because as the audience we are still meant to identify with Holden and his "everyone's in it equally together" nonsense and disidentify with Dawes because he's shady and questionable.

S02E08 - ok so I'm enjoying the show more despite the flaws. I still find Holden and Naomi's relationship so unbelievable and I cringe whenever they are
. I've been interested in Amos since the beginning but can't quite articulate why yet.Show this thread -
I'm very into the plot about the oppressed class fighting for freedom and the desperation of using any means possible and the consequences and reprocussions of that... but I'm struggling with the framing.
Show this thread -
When a people are that oppressed, it's understandable that they will do anything to get out of it, but as the audience, it feels like we are still guided towards identifying with Holden's "centrist" mentality because the OPA are "too extreme".

S02E09 - pretty good episode. The tension in Gunny about following orders versus telling the truth to "the enemy" was good. I like the metaphor about how martian bodies are literally in pain on earth. There is truly no hope that Holden isn't just the most dreadfully dull.

S01E10 Naomi says to Holden, "every shitty thing we do makes the next one that much easier". When is she gonna mutiny already? Are we assuming that Amos had the anti-empathy procedure? Is the show gonna be like, nah psyche, he's just always been like this.

S01E11 - watching Bobbie beg for political asylum legitimately made me tear up.
Holden has turned into Miller & still says stupid shit like, "Suit up. We're going on a hunt"
I just can't with this guy. Looking forward to the episode when the protomolecule eats him.Show this thread -
I'm clearly very invested in this show at this point and Holden is the mega weak point. Every time he's on screen I get pulled out of the emotion and drama. I wish I had an adblocker app for his entire character.

S02E12 - I don't understand why Alex is listening to Holden's manic rage at all. It's just the two of them. Screw military hierarchy. How do we get the buddy movie with Naomi and the captain of the Somnambulist? That would be

S02E13 - Naomi says "you saved us" to Holden and I

everywhere. Good line from Prax "you know a lot about how people die" eesh. Curious to see what they do with Bobbie. Kinda love that Naomi gave the protomolecule to Johnson. Good finale.Show this thread
