I thought about this exact thing everyday we were writing History vs Women. How many women's lives were not considered valuable enough to record and document?https://twitter.com/rachsyme/status/1039916259620610048 …

Every time you read about a woman in history who broke through to be someone you want to know more about, you need to probably calculate that there were 100 just like her who were silenced/held back/not taken seriously; maybe 1000

Well no, same does not go for men. In patriarchy, men are attributed to the public sphere and women to the private sphere. That leads to men having the privilege of being more listened to and getting more attention than women. Women have to fight harder than men to be visible.

Women were not all silenced. Women were not as successful for a heap of options but men refusing to take women seriously was not one of them. You can write about how men were horrible but realistically there was a lot of natural barriers

Funny, I cannot think of any other reason for woman, LGBT or POC stories not to be heard of than the fact that history is written by white, straight cis man. Historians that do great job of documenting those silebced stories now are true heroes.

A lot of LGBT stories still exist you just don't know if they were LGBT. It was illegal in most countries so the fact is some of the most known and famous people of all time could be LGBT. Even some of those white men who oppressed others could in fact be gay.

But my reasoning for women is very understandable when you think about it. Especially in the 1800s where a lot of out famous people come from it was quite common for women to be injured during childbirth and not being able to work. Looking after kids became a huge part to

That is also why the most famous women excluding royalty did not have children or had them at an older age like Marie Curie did.

So true in the field of women composers. It was frustrating learning about women who “did everything right” including leaving their scores to a college professor upon their death, only to have their works all but lost (save for the few that scholars still found).

How about some history vs men? I'd read that. You know, how men worked down coal mines from the age of a boy, many of whom died. And those who were conscripted to go and fight in wars, if they didn't want to fight. They would have people like you pinning white fathers on them.

Ah, sarcasm. How cute. That would probably be because men built the world as it stands. Every modern convenience you enjoy, almost without fail was designed and built by a man. Women were left to design and build a bridge. And look how that turned out. People died.

Ok, so you live in a world where you think everything was invented by dudes except one bridge that was built by a woman that collapsed? Bc I googled bridge built by woman and this came up, which seems to make the OP’s point tbqhhttps://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/this-bridge-is-nicknamed-the-ladies-bridge-because-it-was-built-largely-by-women-11004076/ …

Built 'largely' by women. Meaning men were involved. Meaning it was most likely designed by men, and men directed the women on how to build it. And the women followed instructions. It's like IKEA, you don't design their furniture, you just build it. 😉
