Living in patriarchy is walking home alone at night when a man starts talking to you, ignoring him doesn't help, he keeps pace & talking even tho you are clearly not interested. Then having to duck in a doorway hoping he doesn't see you and harass you more and/or follow you home.

I learned not that long ago that the size and strength difference between the average man and woman is similar to that of the average man and an NFL linebacker. It definitely made me re-examine many of my interactions and empathize with these kinds of experiences.
-
And that’s not coming from a position of ever thinking men doing these things in the street were okay. But better being able to understand why a situation I might view as unpleasant could be terrifying to someone else.

It's also not always an option for women to tell their street harassers that they are "not interested." These street harassers don't care if you're interested or not, so what good does it do to just tell them you're "not interested"?

Men need to stop doing it. It is not the victims responsibility ugh

I would love to carry hundreds of dollars on my person through a dangerous neighborhood on my way to the bus stop. In an ideal world, I should be able to. But as an adult I know I can't. crying foul on twitter hoping criminals will stop is wishful thinking. Grow up Shonalika.

women are not money theyre people and they shouldnt be harassed when theyre minding their own business so shut up and stop victim blaming tom

Let me point one thing. Looks don't matter. There is always some idiot that thinks because you are "ugly" that means you are "easy" and when you fight back it's all "I didn't want a ugly girl anyway" and it does not matter if you are playboy centerfold material.
-
hey bby what's your phone number
-
And here is point number 2. When transwomen say leave us alone we often get harassed or worse.
-
hey so that person started by making an anti semitic comment they are a nazi. just block.

That’s what Molly Tibbets did and she was murdered. This is why women need allies not ignorant aholes.

First of all you could seriously just tell the man that you're seriously not interested Second I'm pretty sure this isn't something that happens to you every single day

And also, does anyone remember what happened to that French woman for doing that? she ended up getting punched in the face by the abusive cat-caller because he didn't like being confronted by herhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-VcErKk6Qs …
-
Yes, and everyone who saw that immediately gets up and starts going after the guy and admonishing him and the like. That just shows people are very willing to be supportive of women who are clearly unfairly aggressed upon.
-
And this is NOT relevant to what I or Anita are saying. I am saying that confronting the harasser will usually end with you getting assaulted, and also, the video shows that even with a cafe full of bystanders, nobody will actually intervene. no-one even blocks him from leaving.
-
Admonishing or yelling at him IS intervening. If they'd done nothing, you'd have a point. But most people don't want to get involved in fights to begin with, be it the defense of man OR woman. It's "not their problem". That's an issue with apathy, not inherent sexism.
