Are you trying to say you specifically made another account to get around blocks?
I like to have some people on mine who differ from my opinions. It helps insulate Twitter becoming an echo chamber for me. I hope.
Problem is, Twitter has a knack for avoiding 'differing opinions' in favor of 'hates your guts and harasses'.
Yeah. That's not optimal.
I like following people who give me death threats. I find it gives me perspective.
Indeed. I have some people I really like and agree with muted. (Cause they tweet a lot with tweets that encourage deep mental engagement, and my attention is finite).
still thinking about blocking harassers, and how they can circumvent this easily, because Twitter doesn’t actually care to protect people
Yeah, unfortunately quote tweets still stay up post-block, meaning one can do it and then block to sic their audience on them with impunity. I see this way too often used against people who really do not need that kind of harassment.
Hooray! Boundaries are healthy
Yep. Anybody who wants to build a bubble around themselves and their opinions by muting anybody who seems to have differing opinions - they’re certainly free to do so. Of course, these bubbles are actively harmful to our ability to discuss things with others.
However it is tiring to see constant personal attacks and entrenched propaganda-style positions.
Certainly, and nobody should feel obliged to address and debate every poorly-expressed contrary opinion. Also volume is an issue: nobody should spend all their time online, or all their online time on Twitter, or all their Twitter time debating. 1/
But I’ve managed to civilly debate both white supremacists and Communists, so long as they can actually articulate their ideas. I haven’t blocked or muted them for it; once the discussion was done we all went out separate ways. 2/
I have muted one person for openly refusing to remove me from a discussion thread I had left for lack of fruitful, civil debate; that’s it. 3/3
Wow! You had to mute one person for not treating you right on Twitter? Shocking! Not like brigades of people sending you death threats, which used to be a typical Anita day BEFORE Gamergate witch-hunt, for saying politically incorrect things like "misogyny in games is bad."
"Brigades" of death threats, huh?
