Why do people keep shooting Luke Cage?

Where did Rosario Dawson go? When does she come back?

I have so many questions about this show that I don't particularly like.

The cop boss was all "Misty stop doing your job blah blah blah your suspended" and now all of a sudden he's like "come back to work and do your job". Why do everyone motivations change suddenly on this show without explanation??

Were Che and Shades lovers in prison?

I never had any interest in watching Iron Fist and just based on this cross-over episode in Luke Cage I think I made the right choice.

Shades' confessions seem so out of sync. Just an episode earlier he was feeling remorse but now he's all laughing and reveling in all his past crimes. It feels so inconsistent.

Let's talk about why this scene is messed up. Like many other cop shows this frames folks asking for lawyers or warrants, aka their constitutional rights, as if they are already guilty.pic.twitter.com/BpBPADl4Ev

How many times have you heard TV cops use the phrase "lawyered up"? These moments are framing the cops as just doing their jobs defending "law and order" and if a suspect asks for a lawyer then they are "clearly guilty".

Police procedurals too often reinforce that the state and our laws are good and fair and just and that if we ever challenge this system then we must be guilty of a crime. But that's not a true reflection of reality and these harmful myths shape our cultural perspectives.

(Although when
@shharine and I spoke to Cheo Hodari Coker, he made it clear he wanted closed captions in patois and did not get that from Netflix)

yeah i saw one of the show runners respond to a thread about this— he said they tried really hard to get the patois right in the speech but he lost the battle with netflix’s captioning pple :(

yo, as a Jamaican (second generation) who grew up around patois speaking parents and family, that really pissed me off. patois is really quite easy to transcribe, especially if you have a Jamaican who knows it.

They do that all the time. Sometimes they also censor the language -- I can lipread, I know they didn't say that word, thanks Netflix. But yeah, captions are very often wrong.
