Quite disappointed in #SoloAStarWarsStory. I feel like it's by far the weakest of the new Star Wars films. Spoilers ahead.

The story structure was mostly fine but the dialogue was really rough. I understood why Ehrenreich was cast because he was able to nail a lot of the Harrison Ford mannerisms but I don't think he was strong enough to lead the film.

The first main character to die is a black woman (how the hell you gonna kill off Thandie Newton in the first act??) and then they barely acknowledged or grieved her death.

They try and be surprising by making Enfys Nest, the leader of the pirates a young woman of colour (played by Erin Kellyman who I definitely want to see more of!) but she doesn't really do anything. Han is the one who comes up with and executes the plan to help fund the rebellion

The movie is trying to play with themes of resisting oppression and fighting for justice by showing the origins of the Rebel Alliance and having a droid uprising but it's just sort of wedged in as an awkward side note instead of being a more important plot point.

yeah but at least they had a woman of color, so that makes the franchise worth investing in. Because you know me, I don't care about the writing of the film just about who is in it. Personally I think @TheRock could play every roll and we could have @AshleyJudd do the rolls.

That's kinda the point of the movie. Han is the one who comes up with plan because he is the main character? I disagree Erin was doing work who do you think ambushed Han before he gave over the refined product. what Narrative are you trying to fill here?

@anitasarkeesian cherry picking the dumbest things in the world in a movie that nobody asked for. Seriously, don't u have anything better to do than rip on movies? I have some suggestions. Go out and fight for women's rights in other countries that actually need it.

Something I thought was odd was how Kathleen Kennedy talks about diversity and gender representation but they can't be bothered to even have two women interact with each other. I'm fairly sure every female character even under KK is a token that only interacts with men.

She has time to say "we are getting a female director" but when they release a book about female Star Wars characters they're all characters that never interact with each other. Why couldn't Thandie Newton has survived longer and spoke to Emelia Clarke, for instance?

Well, yeah, it’s a Han Solo movie, is it not? And she and her Rebels still are the ones who defeat Vos’s men, and she is the one who chooses to ultimately carry on the rebellion whereas Han declines the rebel route. She deserves credit for that.
