    4/5... and, even though it was not a full Kumbh, I was there two weeks ago, at Sangam - the confluence of the Ganges, the Yamuna, and the (imaginary) Saraswati. (A smaller Mela happens every year - but its still vast)

    2/5 Every 12 years, on the outskirts of my family's hometown of Allahabad (now "Prayagraj"), a city for 7 million people rises from the Ganges floodplain. About 100 million visit over the 10 weeks for this most holy of Hindu festivals. I was there in 2001 ...

    I spoke to some students about writing yesterday. Here’s my advice: 1000 words a day (I call this unit an ‘Updike’), read your writing out loud, cut your first draft introduction and rewrite it, go for a walk. Cut adverbs, passive constructions, jargon, and divide long sentences.

    Lots of people today talk about using artificial intelligence as a creative tool in the arts, but artifical life can do amazing things too. (I don't know exactly how generates these beautiful movies, but I assume it's using a-life techniques.)
