One of the things I always liked about Weird Al is that he respects boundaries with other artists, as when Prince asked him not to parody his work. A great lesson in artistic consent and the power of clearly communicating creative boundaries.

I believe parody, or in fact any version which changes the words, generally requires permission from the songwriter (unlike a regular cover), so he didn't really have a choice. But yeah.
