Relatedly: you will have people you love who are not able to promote themselves or their work, because of professional constraints, of because they’re not in a place to do so emotionally. Shout from the rooftops about their work, and amplify their efforts. It can change a life.

and inversely, what's the right way for an overrepresented person to talk (or NOT talk) about our work so as to not get undeserved credit? something i think a lot about...

Amplify others! Always a good idea.

Just wanted to say thank you. For being someone who I can consistently look up to and point out as a role model not only in tech but to a 11yo who now understands that it's okay to be different, to embrace your culture (mangoes ftw) and to always pay it forward when you can.
-
Thank you SO MUCH. That’s incredibly kind!

Anil, I’m just going to come out and say it, even if you don’t see this: you’re one of my biggest heroes in life, and I’ve wanted to meet with you ever since I first discovered your work. If you’re ever looking for a mentee, or someone to just treat you to coffee - let me know.
-
Wow! That’s incredibly kind, and inspires me to try to be worthy of such high praise. Do drop me a line at anil@glitch and let’s find some time to chat.

Be confident; Don’t be afraid of promoting one’s work or project to take deserved credit. But if people continue to give you the feedback of being “arrogant”, at least take it with a grain of salt and see if there’s room for improvement? Not all successful ppl are assholes
