    Being curious is the only path forward right now. If you're not, a machine will take your job and then what? You can't retrain someone who takes pride in the fact that they don't read books.

    In undergrad a really prevalent meme was that you could either gun hard for career by ignoring everything non-credentialled, or explore + follow your curiosity, but not both. But more than a decade out it seems like the curious people got the best careers too

    Why are elites trying to cover up the full extent of the Coronavirus? The media perceives people's fear as anti-Chinese sentiment, when in reality it's rooted in pragmatism.

    It’s ... it’s 50x more deadly, spreads more rapidly, originated next to a biowarfare lab, and has no vaccine. But sure, let’s talk about the flu. Gotta say ... the coordinated narrative control we’re seeing out of both the US and China is mighty impressive.

    Luckily, Africa doesn't have to go through the same mistakes America and Europe made. If we know what works, we only need more entrepreneurs like combining the best parts of the western and eastern world. Execution, not technical risk.

    Playbook for how to choose what large businesses to build in Africa over the next century: Look at Europe, Asia, & North America. What large CO’s emerged as those places industrialized? What large CO’s catalyzed industrialization? Build that.

    If nothing else, those with fantastic memories are usually great conversationalists. Churchill could quote perfect passages from the History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. Neumann did the same with the Tale of Two Cities.

    A very important and underappreciated fact about memorization: Having islands of knowledge already embedded in your mind not only allows instant recall but allows building frameworks by connecting them, something not possible through “just-in-time” lookup on Google.

    Actually, even Yale and its kin might be in trouble with their blatant doublespeak. Guess who they don't want at their university? Intro to Art History was 'too white, too European, too male, too “problematic' so its now scrapped.

    Instead, Yale refuses to offer any foundational courses whatsoever, while promising a future intro course that will somehow be "equal" to all else heaven forbid we students are presented with coherent narratives (the implication being we're too stupid to question them ourselves)

    Saw reverse Whataboutism in action while comparing the NHS to the American healthcare system. Sure America could improve, but that doesn't mean the NHS is without its own complaints.

    This is reverse Whataboutism. Whataboutism was the Soviets citing something wrong with the US when their own policies were rightfully criticized. Reverse Whataboutism is finding some American analog to whine about when some other culture is rightfully criticized.

    "You either go to Yale or you go to jail." The American university system is like Lehman Brothers pre-2007 except the bubble hasn't burst yet. The Ivy League and comparables will be fine, but the other 99% will go by the wayside.

    It’s going to take a while to wake up to what the STEM workforce & US research university network mutated into being. Think of how you used to see Bear Stearns or AIG, but before 2007. That’s where we are now. Nothing is how it appears. Let’s let events unfold a bit more though.

    In the 1970s, slots were ~40% of casino revenue; now they're nearly 70%. Younger generations prefer slots with worse odds than classic card games. AR/VR would only make slots more popular.

    MGM Grand converted to an Apple themed Vegas casino that basically just looks like a giant Apple store...

    These same people chastise Gates for existing while he works day and night to make a difference. Judging by how the government spends our money, I'm sad we don't have more billionares. Clearly, the interesting questions can't be asked in academia anymore.

    . is right. There are 5 ways to accumulate a billion dollars in America: 1) Profiting from a monopoly 2) Insider-trading 3) Political payoffs 4) Fraud 5) Inheritance None of these are earned or have anything to do with being successful in the supposed free market.
