So...this is why you need to do phase 3 clinical trials prior to a vaccine getting approval.

BREAKING: AstraZeneca's #Covid19 vaccine trials have been paused as the company investigates a serious adverse event the occurred in the UK. Not clear if the unexplained illness is linked to the vaccine, or what it was. statnews.com/2020/09/08/ast
To clarify, this may not be a big deal. This type of pause normally happens when there is an unexpected severe adverse event. It may be unrelated to the vaccine, but the important part is that this is why we do trials before rolling out a vaccine to the general public.

Important to stress that pauses like this are not a rare occurrence in clinical trials. Each incident is thoroughly evaluated by a patient safety team to see if there was a plausible or probable relationship to the treatment. Pauses are the system working.

Yes we need Phase 3 studies but everyone else needs to calm down and not write off this potential therapeutic. This stuff happens in every clinical trial, they just need time to sort it out. Doesn’t mean this vaccine is doomed

And... if folks feel it’s a political football- and it’s been pushed through.. no one will take it AND there goes the profits.

Thanks for sharing. Russian and US administration approach of rushing out unproven vaccines for political purposes could be very damaging for public confidence globally. The anti-vaxxer movement is already a problem. We need to do things the right way and cooperate globally.
