Let's go over the timeline:
1. March: Ioannidis recruited a team of mostly white, all-male "top scientists" to advise the White House against stay-home orders based on his completely untested hypothesis that #SARSCoV2 #COVID19 #coronavirus has a low mortality rate.

"Dr Ioannidis (bio below) is assembling a group of world renowned scientists who can contribute insights to help solve the major challenge of COVID-19, by intensifying efforts to understand the denominator of infected people (much larger than what is documented to-date)...

"...and having a science- and data-informed, targeted approach rather than shutting down the country for very long time and jeopardizing so many lives in doing this" Except there was NO data at this time! And intending to influence policy without data is inherently unscientific.

"The aim is to identify the best way to both save more lives and avoid serious damage to the US economy using the most reliable data, since the infection rate may be off by a very large factor versus the number of currently documented cases." Again, NO data to support this.

2. April: "Top scientists" from Ioannidis's team go on Fox News to talk about their "science-based" approach for reopening the economy with the founder of JetBlue...for some reason. Why is he involved? Unclear at this time, but he is all for reopening.

Still April: Ioannidis and colleagues published the ghastly Santa Clara study pre-print, an ode to bad statistics, recruiting bias, and terrible serology tests, which proved his prior untested hypothesis that COVID-19 is comparable to the seasonal flu.

3. May: Ioannidis continues to update the pre-print and also conduct additional meta-analyses of other cherry-picked serosurveillance studies curated to prove his hypothesis that mortality is very low.

Still May:
@stephaniemlee reveals that the Santa Clara study was funded by...the founder of JetBlue. Suddenly Ioannidis's unsupported anti-lockdown stance and eagerness to convince the president makes a lot more sense. He has a financial stake in it.https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/stephaniemlee/stanford-coronavirus-neeleman-ioannidis-whistleblower …Show this thread -
June and July: Ioannidis continues updating all his pre-prints to this day, even after 140,000 have died in the US from
#COVID19. This is an unethical and inexcusable use of his power and platform and a severe threat to public health.Show this thread

Of course Levitt had to throw his hat into the ring of fatalistic nonsense as well.
