I wrote a piece for I have been yearning to do for awhile about Keri Russell's tremendous, blistering, layered performance on . One of the best TV performances of the modern age.

Get proactive if you so much as sense your friends and family struggling. Do the work, because depression tells you that it is burdensome to those people to reach out. It always makes me furious when people respond to a suicide by saying to get help. Like, it's not that simple.

As someone who loves food and travel and people, I used to binge watch Bourdain. He seemed to understand what really makes food amazing: it’s an expressive act of folks sharing the best of themselves. Their history, their woes, their fellowship, their innovation, their tradition.

There's this exchange between Bourdain and Iggy Pop during the Miami episode of Parts Unknown where Iggy tells Bourdain, "You seem like a curious person" and Bourdain answers, " It’s my only virtue." I think about that all the time.

  7. I first tried to kill myself when I was 13. I have lived with being suicidal for a very long time. I think we put the onus on suicidal and depressed people to reach out when in the darkest moments that feels impossible. Please, reach out to those you love.

I've longed for death since I was 12 years old. It's been a constant, some fluctuations, but always there. A way out. It's really only been through CBT that I have gone for a couple years now w/out ideation. Grateful for it, and my life. To anyone who struggles: my DMs are open.

Sometimes I worry people will get sick of me writing so much about the ways mental illness, gender, race and pop culture intersect. Then I remember I will never grow tired writing about that subject.

This is a nightmare scenario that I think about often — most often, I think of critics who are parents having to give up their phones for 2-3 hours on late weeknights. Over a movie! It’s stupid. This is stupid.

Serious question for folks who write online: What do you do to regenerate, creatively, in a climate that requires near-constant opining about a complete deluge of content? The rat race aspect of all this seems to be wearing on me at the moment.

Not for men, anyway. Women who can't let go of the Baby-Sitters Club or the Little House books don't have a whole entertainment industry catering to their tastes.
