Market beliefs The meaningful thing about web3 is not the supply side—it’s the demand side. Demand for new social contracts, new political systems, new governance models, new forms of distribution, being able to experiment with those things involving more voices. 10/n

Market beliefs Everything it takes to build tech companies, the hundreds of things that are plumbing, should be products or services and will be. 9/n

Market beliefs The mid-market is completely underserved by software as a service. Mostly because investors don't get the numbers and engineers are bored by it, not because it's hard. 8/n

Market beliefs We’ll have a new branch of thinking in software, where instead of being an industrial activity, it will be a creator’s activity, a creative endeavor. And the same kinds of tools and services afforded to musicians, for instance, will have analogs here. 7/n

Working with founders We go as deep as they want us. @crane_vc builds the foundations of their company with them. I basically behave as if I’m extended exec staff, albeit part time and not-to-be-put-in-critical-path-of-anything. 6/n

What I want to see The problem is sufficiently problematic that people would pay for it to be solved. In an unbounded market. There are surprisingly many domains where the market is effectively unbounded __from where we stand today__. 5/n

What I want to see Someone who deeply understands the problem because they’ve lived it, is passionate about solving it, and cares __more__ about solving the problem than they care about being right. 4/n

Board contention 1/ You’re not succeeding -> different ideas re how to solve that 2/ You're -> jockeying for equity++ It's not materially different from managing a roomful of execs. As founders, part of your job is to run your board and not let your board run you. 3/n

Investing focus There’s where @crane_vc invests, b2b software + enterprise + oss + dev tools + data tools—and within where __my__ interests are, which is all of that, and also a dozen other things too [pharma supply chain! CRDTs! semantic search!]. 2/n

Average day Meetings. Lots. Talking to founders, yes, but maybe more importantly, talking to __other__ people who can give me an honest read on our theories about the world, the market, a specific problem space, etc. 1/n
