Iowa only has 1,681 precincts - and the app was that crashed was only for precinct admins to upload tally (not for individual Iowa voters to vote). Even if all precincts hit ‘enter’ at once - scalability shouldn’t have been the issue... Can’t let one failure ruin voting tech...

I continue to be impressed with IOS Mail’s ability to auto-decipher which of my emails to use for sending to a recipient based on person and source. Even works well when fwd a Tweet. Lots going on in background to make that product feature invisible. Nice work y’all...

Not thinking about the advantages of distributed teams is just ❌ wrong. brings an interesting perspective about the future of "normalized" salaries, the ease of using channels to engage with different teams and creating a culture:

This is not a new blog but truly a great one by for any founder looking to set corporate values. I’ve made almost all of the same mistakes - including ‘values by committee’ as well as doing them too late...

Strangely excited for the future of shower tech... Stack rank of ‘features’ of this new Ello&Allo: 1) pressure, 2) fixed temp setting dial, 3) LED display of temp/length shower, 4) price ($280), 5) handspray, 6) down spout (for cleaning), 7) useless stuff - mist, various spouts

You’re either a product person or you’re not. Binary. Here is 1 simple question to tell if you are: Do you look at everything around you and ask ‘why is it designed that way and how would I make it better’?

I don’t understand why Apple is pushing ‘slofies’ as much as they are. Not sure very many people care about selfie tech...

All great SaaS product mgrs know their true net margin per product. Looking at a company-wide margin is insufficient. Breakdown to a FULLY loaded cost per product - it drives product strategy, roadmap, pricing, marketing, sales, etc etc...

Really wanted the ‘Silence Unknown Callers’ feature in IOS to work. Works as designed - but turns out 100% blocking without any notification (other than a vmail - that I rarely check) isn’t sufficient. Ideally it ‘rings’ silently instead of sending straight to vmail...

Love when you’ve known someone for years and discover something amazing about them much later that they were humble enough not to bring forward in the first 30 seconds you met them... Awesome TED main stage talk here by ...

11/ Though reading hardcover by a cozy fire is the highest quality reading - the frequency is too low. So supplementing with audiobooks at 2.5-3x speed during your commutes, walks, workouts, etc dramatically improve your consumption/year of books. Everyone can do 50 books a year

10/ Taking notes in your phone while listening to audiobooks increases retention, gives you the ability to go back and refresh and enables you to share with friends.

9/ You can 'training your ear' to understand at higher speeds by doing 'reps' - clicking to the next speed up on Audible for 10 mins, then back to normal for 10 mins, repeat... Do this for 3-4 books and you will establish a new 'normal' (and hate to go backwards).

8/ Obviously comprehension matters - but you can train your ear/brain to comprehend at higher speeds. A German researcher found blind people can easily understand at 2.5x faster than sighted people -

7/ Speed chart vs the typical 238 WPM. At 3x speed - you're 71% faster than the typical reader.

6/ Audiobook speed is roughly 1.0x (how we talk) and 1.75x (how we read). So for most people - if you can step-up past 1.75x - you're consuming books faster than if you had the hardcopy.

5/ I measured WPM on the Audible app by manually counting the words in the Preface section of Extreme Ownership (1351 words) then recorded the time for Audible to finish reading - results below.
