I don't understand why people are skeptical that US Republicans might try to steal the 2020 Presidential election given that they did steal the election 20 years ago when they were arguably less fanatical and certainly didn't have the same supportive racist militias on the ground

I hope the election results are too overwhelming to contest but with a supreme court majority, the support of the various police forces and armed racist militias I think US Republicans roll the dice. Why wouldn't they try? As you say, no consequences.
We'd be having a different conversation about whether or not they will try if they weren't literally saying they are going to try to, in every piece of messaging about the validity of votes they have been sending.
