You know what's weird? That most things in the gaming space have evolved to paid and more professional positions. Except forum (reddit) moderation. We're somehow ok with this being unpaid work who's only reward is power. Which inevitably can attract the wrong people. What?

I have no idea about the back end financials of Reddit. What I do know though is that volunteer work + real tangible power is a terrible and toxic mix. Because that power becomes the actual reward for people. Which inevitably leads to all sorts of abuses given enough time.

Which isn't to say that every Reddit mod is bad. Just that you're creating an environment that's going to create bad actors a lot more frequently than if the circumstances of employment were different.
