I find this time period so interesting partially due to the incredible mixture of cultures encountering each other in a vast, somewhat lawless wilderness. Chinese immigrants building the railroads, cowboys coming up from Mexico, white settlers, Native Americans, and more.
Don't forget the Irish that also worked as farmers, miners and railroad labourers too! Different times for Irish people emigrating out to America.
