The imagery in my head is a public square, surrounded by cafes and benches and filled with people milling about. Random interactions with people you half-recognize, just enough to know that you'll likely see them again, but new enough that there's a lot to learn from them :)

A big lounge with people walking around, coming, going, running into each others’ conversations, ringed by walls of whiteboards where folks who may not be here at the moment have left thoughts/work that may be nucleating conversation.

The fluid semi-synchrony seems so important to the medium; not sure quite how to pin it down conceptually. But practically speaking sometimes I engage in the mode of a conversation for that moment; other times I engage in the mode of taping up a poster and walking away.
