A few months ago, I put aliases on my desktop to the folders where I keep process artifacts for my projects—lots of visual flotsam. It's been so great! Now I continually Cmd+Shift+4 as I work; every couple days, I drag stuff into place (or into "Archive") until desktop's empty.
