This resonates! I think you're right that this is sort of a subset of what I see as brutalist web design… but almost, like, made more anodyne for a mass audience?
I don't think this is very accurate. These designs are still very grid-based, just playful with it and creative with in-grid placement. A variant on stair-stepping type.
