One of the better changes I made in early 2017 was a consistent “no internet the first hour I’m awake” policy, above and beyond more typical no-phone-by-bed, Focus.app, etc. When sleepy, it’s so easy to allow my goals to be subverted, mind buzzing with trivia.

I suspect I would just fall back asleep more often than not if "forcing my eyes to focus and comprehend text" weren't in my morning routine but maybe I should try it out.

I always worry that if I pop open a book or, say, a New Yorker article, I won't be awake enough to retain anything. Then again, I've never actually tried 😂

Yes, this is a problem. Make notes; write Anki cards; etc. Gotta "think it through."
