One lens I've used to pick focuses is something like a likelihood ratio: expected value with one's involvement over expected value with one's likely replacement.
I somehow only now realized this factor strongly favors situations where one's in an outsider/contrarian position.

I don't think I'd change my decisions given that observation, but it is helping me view previously-frustrating misalignments with more equanimity.
