❤️ this approach creating stylized physics from artists’ illustrations. Wonder about extending to other trad anim concerns, eg anticipation…

There’s been so much work implementing authentic physics in interfaces, but I contend one usually wants *stylized* physics in interactions.

One key issue is interfaces are full of infinite forces: the user grabs an animating object; object designed to rotate only on one axis; etc

this is definitely the case for games, at least some of the time:

Totally! Often think of ’s work here, where the deliberate faking of physics, lighting, etc is so key to its joyousness.

This is especially applicable in VR, unconstrained by physics.
How can systems’ operations be recognizable when diverging from intuition?

Often stylized physics is *more* body-intuitive than the noise, singularities, messiness of authentic physics simulations! :)

Yeah, I agree - more often users want what looks and feels “right”, not “authentic”.

Totally. Also, the work needed to counteract unwanted aspects of an authentic physics system has a chilling effect on creative exploration.
