I'm thinking about copyright and trying to figure out why today's system, that copyright runs as long as mickey mouse is old, is wrong.

What's the issue with a copyright system that gives you 20 de facto years and then requires a $500 annual renewal on the part of the owner.

With this system, we go back to the original intent of copyright, that is to promote progress by temporarily protecting creators.

Wonder if cost-per-year for protection should go up annually to maintain equilibrium here.

seems that this would make it harder for authors most in need of protection to afford it. A level field is only fair.

Skeptical of “most in need of protection” after 20 yrs & of unbounded protection. Eventually public good overtakes creator need.
