Those things no doubt helped a lot in making SI a success. But it was also an important increment in its own right

Great point. Simultaneously agree & also worry tech culture chronically over-attributes contribution-due-to-tech.
No arg there! (In general terms, though, I'm a fan of people being their own fans, at least up to a point!)
