Sucked into interesting citation rathole on “myth of the 10x programmer” this morning. Good comment thread here: bit.ly/1k9yJ5F

what is 10x metric? e.g. is a 10x runner: 10x faster, 10x more likely to win a race, or something else?

Very interested in the “time to deal with spec changes” one b/c of idea that 10x faster devs just write 10x sloppier code.

wondering if a good programmer may be less likely to implement a bad spec…

eg good spec distills app into simple and consistent patterns which can be well abstracted by a good programmer…

…and spec changes to a bad design are more readily handled by bad programmer because they make no attempt to abstract…

Yeah, that’s interesting! You can read more about the specs given in the papers—maybe big enough problems to tell.

any spec beyond “make something useful” is part of programming and determines how well the patterns can be expressed
