yeah that is always a risk but at least you have source. I've now repeatedly disassembled UIKit to figure out its buggy behavior…

I do this all the time. And that's on the Blessed Golden Path, so things off that path don't seem worth it.

next step will be to ditch UIKit and just own the rendering stack

If I thought I had any chance of keeping up with iOS changes, I might. But can't even using UIKit, so not going to.

eg, get up to a few 100 view controllers and it's hard just to keep up with the SDK, fix new UIKit bugs, etc.
