I am constantly trying to get my smart adult students to ask why and dig deeper. There is much resistance to it.

To start with, I think you must have a genuine and sincere sense of curiosity.

Yes, and that's a teacher's dilemma. Can curiosity be taught? How about abstract thinking? That's my pro life now.

I think that is absolutely true in the majority of us. I've seen it happen with my kids and it was heartbreaking.

We blame our education systems for killing curiosity, but peer pressure is also a powerful deterrent.
