I am constantly trying to get my smart adult students to ask why and dig deeper. There is much resistance to it.

I have lots of ideas on why. It seems deep in our culture to figure things out on our own and not ask questions.

The programming field is different, we need to ask questions all the time and it's hard to learn that.

To start with, I think you must have a genuine and sincere sense of curiosity.

Yes, and that's a teacher's dilemma. Can curiosity be taught? How about abstract thinking? That's my pro life now.
