I have some detailed experience about the Xamarin route on Mac/Win, if you’re interested.

Would you reconmend it for a large existing codebase and team?

Not ideally, but…all options are hard, eh?
My data point: they didn’t support 64-bit on Mac till…2014, maybe? 7 years.

So you have to ask yourself: what other new architectural advances will they remain half a decade behind on?

Likely SOL on bitcode. Anything off the blessed clang toolchain from Apple at this point is suspect.

Indeed. But transpiling Java to Obj-C, binding to C++, and using the JS VM would still be fine w.r.t. bitcode.

Yes, because Mono contains its own compiler. Danger danger with respect to bitcode.

Yeah, so anyway, something else to watch out for. I guess you could always write a frontend for LLVM for whatever

Zero interest in that. We’re a tiny non-profit, and our primary problems are not technical.

You’re primarily using a non-Apple runtime + bindings. If you can trust ’em, you’re golden, they do all the work.
