Seems indicative of shifting expectations/demands that SICP used to be freshman course book; now it's considered "super advanced reading" :/

when (or where) was it a freshman text? It was used for the junior level survey course at UMd in the mid-90s.

Don't know about other schools, but it was the textbook for the first CS course at MIT, Caltech, Berkeley for decades.
