Old animations weren't interruptible, just had much shorter tails (and there were fewer). UIKit not designed for interruptibility. :(

Use the four finger close gesture on an iPad and try it. They managed to bring it back for that in iOS 8.1 I think.

I miss it everywhere but I guess they figure the other animations are fast enough now for most people.
