in TextEdit, or just Xcode? 'cause I'd think it's the toolchain itself that is slow.

the whole OS. when i say "typing," a lot of that is e.g. cmd+tab, page-up, etc

mm. I feel like people just don't remember SnowLeopard. :-p That was a super fraught release.

that might be true. i can't remember being this frustrated with performance until the last couple years?

Snow Leopard sucked for development (lol layer backing), but it was pretty solid for my usage.
