How much of "Infinite Jest" do you have to read before it conceals into any resemblance of a story?

I'm a fan of the book, but I would not suggest trying to read it for story. There's one there, but it's not really the point.

I've started and stopped the book a few times. I can't get into it. What am I missing?

I enjoy its diction, prose, structure, and allegory. It's pretty abstruse, though, for sure.

I wonder of all the otherthings I'll miss while investing in it.

Yeah, I'm very familiar with that particular neurosis. That's… uh, sorta why I left Apple. ;)
