I'm really confused about how Coursera works. What are these "sessions"? I just want the materials and to learn at my own pace...

If I join an in progress session, will the materials go away at the end of the session?

As to why “sessions,” some courses (not all) need a cohort of students to facilitate interaction and peer assessment.

That's the default. The instructors could take things down if they wanted to, but we mostly don't. That'd be work.
