Disagree. Basic OO design: ask the subview, it knows own state. I think it would be broken if superview skipped it.

Good point, Greg: “tell, don’t ask,” after all. We’re pretty inconsistent on that with views.

I think the thing that makes this case so surprising is that hiddenness is an implementation detail here.
