Seems like deeply nested data causes a lot of grief. Key paths, copying… Does it make sense to use more&shallower data, linked by relations?

Serious advantages there in replication too; cf all the nosql DBs these days

is “there” the former or the latter? One concern w/shallow data and rels: hard to time travel in user space by copying data?

Sorry: the latter. Definitely harder to time travel—that’s why the NoSQL DBs like it!

Could time travel @ language/DB level (w/suitable frame of reference) a la McCarthy’s Elephant. Mutating rels is awkward tho
