We're drawing cached gradient UIImages over a text mask drawn with CGContextSetTextDrawingMode(context, kCGTextFillClip)

…in a TextKit NSLayoutManager subclass. When scrolling happens it chokes for a second leading to laggy scrolling. Any ideas?
