Hofstadter+Sander’s “Surfaces and Essences”: sparkling prose! Density of insight not as I’d hoped—many concepts familiar from Strange Loop.

I loved H's description in SL of the central loop of cognition, almost as if we were run on an event loop of consciousness.

I have S&E sitting on my shelf, but due to its sheer size I haven't picked it up since it'd be a pain to take on the bus.

Sorry, I was at XOXO instead! But I’d love to meet up someday.

Hi 8 year old tweet. Finished S&E, based on this tweet.
It's about cognition, and whatever musings the authors wanted to explore (like the Einstein bit… we get it, he extended an analogy).
If—like me—you love Hofstadter musings, it's a joy. Otherwise it'd drag on forever. A+👍
