, I'd love to hear your take on synthesis school. Does this approach have the same characteristics as an "educational game" that dooms it from becoming an enabling environment?

I don't know enough to say. I observed a class in late 2020 playing a game meant to emphasize teamwork, planning, etc. The kids enjoyed the game for its aesthetic value—i.e. it was fun—but then, I don't know if it succeeded in its developmental aims. V hard to do this in general.

Thanks! Interested in the representation design. My guess is they are designed around “solving important problems in a field” but also probably simplified? If it were designed for expert use—you’d certainly be the expert!
