Why is there no equivalent of the VC industry, but for patentable inventions instead of startups?
If I'm an inventor, and I have an idea for a valuable patented invention, why can't I pitch investors for funding, in exchange for an interest in the IP?
Or *does* this exist?

The only way to distinguish the "venture" view from the "troll" view is by intent, but having been on the receiving end they all seem like trolls to me. Any "non practicing entity" with respect to patents is presumed a troll.

One interesting asymmetry between VC and NPEs is that NPEs are necessarily adversarial: to earn returns on their investment, they must threaten lawsuits and proactively seek out people who should be paying. Hard to create positive-sum vibes in that context. Much less true for VC.
