Enjoyed this; thanks for writing bloodily. A lesson that was very important for me on achievement-oriented self-actualization/belonging: "It's hard enough of something that almost works."
(Vincent Felitti wrote that, on eating-related addictions, but it applies to this addiction as well—to feeling like you're "enough" only when you've achieved contingent regard)
