Considering a (first) visit to Ireland in late May.
* What unusual / underrated activities should I consider?
* What books should I read in preparation?
* Assuming I can hear trad music by hanging out in pubs, how should I best enjoy the contemporary Irish music scene?

Ask locals where a good session is to be had. Enjoyment will come naturally.

Walking in the green, green landscape, and around the cities; histories of Ireland; Yeats poetry; I loved the pub scene for craic in Galway (in the west).

Luke Skywalker's island is off the West Coast of Ireland, it's called Skellig Michael. If you are nearby I recommend the boat trip around it (a *very* limited number of people each day are allowed on the island).

I enjoyed scribd.com/book/208889607
Also, museums in Dublin: I think chesterbeatty.ie is often overlooked
Enjoy Ireland 🇮🇪☀️🌦

Recommend talking to random people & try organise occasions to eat food with people & talk more. General talking is the key feature, go to the west coast too if you travel along that. Meet more people to talk too
Highly recommend short dip in the Atlantic. An existential cleanser

Need to truly experience casual swearing but muted via an Irish accent of a group & a reckless disregard for word order & timekeeping
Ireland feels conversational Mediterranean & Slavic
Will be way out west in Belmullet in Mayo if you ever reach Achill Island can show somethings

How late in May? One of the biggest #NLProc conferences is in Dublin around that time (and I'm visiting)

Not sure yet, but will be traveling on holiday with my wife, so will be focused on Irish culture and nature rather than networking etc.
