I want note-taking/tools-for-thought software to start thinking of ideas and notes like material objects that have a location, visual features, specific relationships and organization relative to each other no more of this "web of associations in abstract space"

tools for knowledge work don't have to reflect the "nature of knowledge" they need to reflect "the nature of work"-- I need to build/fix/organize/tinker with familiar, recognizable, persistent THINGS

Yeah in general I'm kinda VR-pessimistic, and I think there can be good solutions that look more like Dynamicland, but this is one of the places where I do see huge value added in VR for my own life/purposes

i was just thinking that quest 2 is like aaaalmost there for being able to leave it on all day and turn your whole house into your computer like being able to pick up your browser tabs w your hands and place them all over your physical space

if quest 2 was exactly the way it is now, but with regular color cameras on the front (for good passthrough, not even AR) and a little better hand tracking, it would be strictly better than phone for sitting around internet content consuming that is like ~all the ad revenue btw

Oh yeah I’m super curious what that would look/feel like! I can picture one version that’s almost like “office simulator” with digital notes in specific locations, and another that’s more like turning an “essay” into a 3D object that can be tinkered with and looked at through /

different “lenses” or from different perspectives. This is the one that I’m excited about, but envisioning 3D /interactive/“functional” knowledge artifacts is difficult to do in a generalized way!
