We're getting normative here, rather than descriptive, so let me just say that for a few specific individuals whose values I feel I understand, I think it's a failure of teleology. And, to a lesser extent, a failure of self-efficacy—difficulty imagining themselves doing more.

Right: "Here's the N years of therapy I needed to let go of my harmful egoic attachments" is alas not mass-medium compatible… but I think MN's right! Writing along those lines really helped me as I navigated away from big tech.
