Candidly: I think these are dangerously misleading forces to leverage for intrinsic motivation over the long term! They work in the moment, but they reinforce egoful cravings and aversion; and they make it harder to develop non-contingent joy-in-doing.

You’re probably right. Though I think this is true of carrots and sticks in general?

Yes, I think that's generally right. Not that they're not useful, but they can make one lose sight of a much more desirable sort of motivation.
