I love being outside, but I'm a wuss when it comes to cold, so I'm always chilly and indoors and a bit sad in Dec/Jan in SF. Feel like a doofus for not realizing 'till this year: I just had to get thermal underlayers, and now I'm totally comfy outside all day in SF winter. ☀️

SF friends: buy thermal underlayers! Be outside and comfy all year! Get those lux~~
I got underlayers from ridgemerino.com, but probably lots of places would work.

(Funny irony: I'm actually in Hawaii right now. I have a tradition of starting the year with a focused solo working retreat. Taking yourself on retreat is also a wonderful Thing You're Allowed to Do!)

I always joked that people in SF wear the same clothes year round but just complain about the cold to varying degrees. It‘s generally warm enough where one can get away with dressing relatively light while people in colder places just dress more warmly by default.

agree these are extremely underrated! i more or less live in smartwool shirts during NYC winter. merino takes longer to smell/feel unclean, so you need less of it to get by even though it's more expensive.

After growing in Siberia (where -40℃ is not unusual) and living in Thailand (where +40℃ is not unusual) I can assure anyone that we are capable of withstanding any temperature given right clothes and some acclimatization.

Should add to this: I very much prefer warmer side of these extremes. Ability to go outside without putting ten items of clothes and not subconsciously fearing for you life is so liberating. I was in SF once and it was like a holiday resort compared to the place I lived then.

Since I started taking cold showers, I'm not cold anymore. That's for the cost conscious 😅
