Often feels like a contradiction, but I think both a) digital reading is mostly much worse than physical reading; and b) literally translating physical affordances is probably not the right way to make digital reading much better.

Yes, absolutely. It's really the only interesting work in the space in a decade, unfortunately.

I have a Google Scholar alert for new citations of @CraigTashman's 2011 LiquidText paper, but alas there have only been a couple high-quality cites. I just can't get over how little has been added to those ideas in the past decade!
