Steven Pinker's new book, "Rationality", was just released. My impression, 1/4 through, is that it could use a strong dose of "meta-/post-rat" (whatever that means)!
e.g. how do we deal with the nebulosity of "vegetable"? neural nets and weights! sure, in some sense, but…

It fails to grapple with the very real problems of reductivism, endemic to most systematic frameworks and especially this one. Whether we characterize something as a vegetable, in practice, is highly contingent; systematizations of that decision rule are mostly unhelpful.

But brains ARE systematizations of that decision rule, or else we couldn't agree on the idea of a vegetable.
(Also, googling "reductivism" returns results about art, music, and the "view that mental states can be reduced to physical phenomena", which sounds like common sense.)
